The questioner : She has another question in which she says: We know that it is recommended for a man on Friday to take a bath, apply perfume, and wear his best clothes. Does this apply to women as well, and do they receive the same reward? Also, is it valid to take a bath one or two days before Friday with the intention of Friday, or is it not valid except on the day itself?

The Shaykh : These rulings are specific to the man, because he is the one who attends the Friday prayer and he is the one who is required to adorn himself when going out. Accordingly, he is the one who is required to take a bath on Friday, clean himself, apply perfume, wear his best clothes, and go early to the Friday prayer. As for women, that is not prescribed for them. However, every person should clean himself if he finds dirt on his body, for that is among the praiseworthy matters that a person should not neglect. As for taking a bath for Friday one or two days before it, it does not benefit, because the hadiths reported on this matter specify the day of Friday, which is the time between the appearance of dawn and the Friday prayer. This is the time for the bath that should be taken. As for taking it one or two days before, it does not suffice and does not benefit him regarding the Friday bath.

The questioner : Yes.
This questioner is Sayyid Ahmad Yasin, a Sudanese resident in Riyadh, who sent [this question].
