Working in a port to which forbidden items are brought

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Fatwa number ( 21073 )
Q: The substance of the question is that he is seeking a ruling regarding his salary, whether it is lawful or forbidden. The person mentioned works in one of the ports of the country of the Philippines, and he is a Filipino and an employee of his country. He states that he is responsible for collecting the fees for loading ships at the port, and these fees include charges on goods that contain forbidden items such as intoxicants, pork, and cigarettes. Is his salary from these revenues and income lawful or forbidden ? He requests a clear and explicit answer; because he is preoccupied with this matter .
A: If the situation is as described, it is not permissible for this person to work in the aforementioned port; because of the assistance this entails in consuming pork and drinking intoxicants and smoking. Allah the Exalted said:
And cooperate in righteousness and piety, but do not cooperate in sin and aggression. And fear Allah; indeed, Allah is severe in penalty.
[Al-Ma'idah 5:2]
, and this person should seek lawful work with good earnings, and whoever gives up something for the sake of Allah, Allah will replace it with something better. Allah the Exalted said:
And whoever fears Allah - He will make for him a way out (3) And will provide for him from where he does not expect.وَمَنْ يَتَّقِ اللَّهَ يَجْعَلْ لَهُ مَخْرَجًا (2) وَيَرْزُقْهُ مِنْ حَيْثُ لاَ يَحْتَسِبُ
[At-Talaq 65:2-3]
.
And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad and his family and his Companions.
