The Description of the Lawful Hijab
Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The first question of Fatwa No. ( 16340 )
Q1: What is the description of the Shari'ah hijab ? Is the niqab the hijab, or does each differ from the other in its ruling and appearance? And is what a girl wears, a khimar that reveals her face and hands, the Shari'ah hijab?
A1: It is obligatory for a woman to cover her face from men who are not among her mahram (relatives one may not marry) with any suitable covering, and it is also obligatory for her to cover her entire body with loose garments that are not tight and do not have adornment that attracts attention. This is the Shari'ah hijab that Allah commanded in His Book and on the tongue of His Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him). The niqab: is a Shari'ah hijab for a woman who is not in a state of ihram for Hajj or 'Umrah, provided that nothing is visible from it except the two eyes only; based on the hadith of Ibn 'Umar established in (Sahih al-Bukhari ) (may Allah have mercy on him). And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
