A female goat joined his flock, and he fed it with his sheep and called out for its owner, but he did not find its owner

Fatwa number ( 21903 )
Q: I own a flock of sheep, and more than a year ago, a thin, emaciated female goat joined them while they were returning from the pasture. It has remained with us from that day to this. I should mention that I asked the livestock owners around us about it and inquired about it in the town market, but no one said that they had lost a goat with those characteristics. Since I buy feed and barley for my livestock, that goat fattened up, then became pregnant and gave birth to a small kid. So the question, O honorable Shaykh, is: Is it permissible for me to dispose of that sheep by selling it or the like? Is its offspring my property? If it is permissible for me to sell it, to whom does its price belong? If I want to own it—and that is what I want—should I bring a man who knows the value of sheep in the market to appraise it? Should he appraise its young one with it? Should its appraisal be based on its previous condition or its current condition? Please issue a ruling, may Allah reward you, and may Allah reward you with good.
A: If the situation is as you described regarding this goat, and you called out for it for a year and no one came for it, then you own it as a precautionary measure. If its owner comes
and describes it with a matching description, then you must return it to him, if it is present along with its offspring. Otherwise, you must pay him its value. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
