Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The questioner : A man has a flock of sheep, and often he finds sheep with his flock that do not belong to it, and they remain with him for a full year without their owner asking about them, given that these sheep eat from the feed of his sheep which is his property. Does he have to pay zakah on them?

The Shaykh : Yes, it is obligatory for the one who finds a sheep, whether it entered his flock or he found it in the desert, to ask about its owner. He should ask about its owner and search among the people around the place for someone who has lost a sheep. However, he should not describe it, because if he describes it, people who do not own it might claim it. Instead, he should say, "Who has lost a sheep for a year?" If the owner comes, he hands it over to him. If the owner does not come, it belongs to the one who found it. But he should ask and say, "This is the period." Sit down, sit down, the time is running out. But if someone says, "If it stays with me for a year, it needs food and drink, so what should I do?" We say: Know its description exactly, record it with you, sell it, and keep the price until the owner comes and describes it, then pay him the price. If he does not come and the year is completed, the price is yours. Yes.
