He also asks: What is the ruling on a woman who leaves her husband's house without his permission?

The questioner : He also asks: What is the ruling on a woman who leaves her husband's house without his permission?

The Shaykh : First, in this question, we offer advice before answering it. We advise all our believing sisters not to leave their homes except for a pressing need that requires going out, because her home is safer for her, further from trial, and more secure for her religion and her character, and it is better for preserving her husband. Therefore, a woman should not go out unless there is a need for it. Then, if she does go out, it is obligatory that she not go out displaying her adornment with beautiful clothes, high heels, perfume, or the like. Rather, she should go out looking shabby and wearing clothes that do not attract the gaze and do not lead to trial. Then, regarding the answer to the question, secondly, it is not permissible for a woman to leave her husband's house without his permission, nor to visit her relatives. If he prevents her from going out, it is not permissible for her to go out except with his permission. And if the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said
It is not permissible for a woman to fast while her husband is present except with his permission. لا يحل لامرأةٍ أن تصوم وزوجها شاهد إلا بإذنه
Sahih Ibn Hibban 16:144
, even though fasting is an act of worship, then going out is even more so. Therefore, it is not permissible for her to leave her husband's house until he gives permission and is pleased with it. It is obligatory for the husband not to give her permission to go out, or not to give her permission to go out in a state where she is a source of temptation with her clothes, her scent, or the like. He should consider whether the request she has made to go out is for a need or not. If it is for a need, let him give her permission with the conditions we mentioned. If it is not for a need, let him prevent her. And success is from Allah.

The questioner : May Allah bless you.
