Sewage water if it is recycled
Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Q: Your Eminence: We praise Allah for the great blessings He has bestowed upon us, the most important of which is the blessing of water. It is not hidden from Your Eminence the shortage of water resulting from increased consumption, and sometimes due to the extravagance of some people in its use, in addition to the delay in the descent of rain. This has led to the emergence of devices for treating sewage, purifying it, and reusing it for a number of purposes, which reduces the use of groundwater and rainwater, and preserves quantities of it for basic uses such as drinking, bathing, cooking, and ritual purification. The question, may Allah preserve you: Is it permissible fora Muslim to give charity, donate, or establish an endowment for the construction of sewage treatment and purification stations for its reuse? And is this considered from the ongoing charities after his death? I hope for your guidance, may Allah protect you.
A : The original state of water is purity. If sewage water is mixed with impurity from urine, feces, or the like, and it is recycled and purified from the impurity, and the smell, taste, and color of the impurity are removed from it, then it becomes pure. Otherwise, it remains impure due to the traces and manifestations of impurity remaining in it. A detailed decision has been issued by the Council of Senior Scholars in the Kingdom regarding this matter.
As for what you asked about, it is permissible for a Muslim to give charity or establish an endowment for the construction of treatment plants for sewage water and its purification for reuse, and this is considered a continuing charity.
