Fatwa No. ( 21681 )
Q. We have at the Armed Forces Hospital in Riyadh and al-Kharj green areas and some shrubs and flowers, and these plantings are watered from the hospital's sewage water after it has been filtered. During the watering process, some of it may get on the clothes of passing workers or visitors. It is known that sometimes this water has a foul smell. We ask your Eminence to issue a ruling on the purity of the clothes if they are affected by some of this water, and attached is a letter from the technical affairs department regarding the method by which the purification process is carried out. May Allah reward you with good, and make you a storehouse for Islam and the Muslims.
A: If the water pumped to the gardens and trees contains any of the characteristics of impurity, such as taste, color, or smell, then it is impure, and anything it touches, whether a body, a garment, or a place, becomes impure. However, if the three characteristics are gone, then anything this water touches, whether a body, a garment, a place, or anything else, does not become impure. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
