Holding a wedding feast for the deceased on the third day

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Fatwa number ( 18551 )
Q 1: Recently, a custom has appeared among us: when a person dies, a relative stands after the burial is finished and calls out to the people, saying, “For the sake of Allah’s face, come to the charity I have intended to perform, and that is on the third day.” Some people respond to the invitation in response to his request for Allah’s face, while others refuse to respond, believing that this practice is a religious innovation. The charity mentioned consists of several slaughtered animals prepared in the deceased’s house. Some people, especially those living near the cemetery, prepare a slaughtered animal as soon as the burial of the funeral is completed, asking the mourners and others they encounter, for the sake of Allah’s face, to attend this feast, explaining that it is a form of charity. Some of them feed the deceased’s family, while others do not.
A 1: The religious innovations mentioned in the question are not permissible to perform; in fact, some of the Salaf classified them as wailing over the deceased. Therefore, you must advise those who do this to abandon it.
Q 2: Some people consider the falling of rain, or the mildness of the weather on the day a person dies, or the softness of the grave’s earth, or the large number of mourners and condolence visitors, to be among the miracles of the deceased, testifying to his good deeds, and the opposite testifies to his bad deeds.
with good deeds, and its opposite testifies to him with bad deeds.

A 2: We know no scriptural evidence for this; rather, it is invalid. However, much good is hoped for the deceased if there are many mourners who stand and supplicate for his forgiveness and mercy. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
