Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Questions Six and Seven from Fatwa No. ( 13842 )
Q 6, 7: When the training is at a travel distance, what is prescribed for me to perform from the sunnahs, and which ones is the traveler excused from? Is
it prescribed for me to perform the night prayer (Qiyam al-Layl) when I find free time during the training? Since some say: As long as you have shortened the prayer, it is not permissible for you to perform the night prayer?

A 6, 7: It is prescribed for a traveler who shortens the prayer to restrict himself to the obligatory prayer and not to perform voluntary prayers. It is established that Ibn 'Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) said:
I accompanied the Prophet (ﷺ) and he did not offer optional prayers during the journey, and Allah says: 'Verily! In Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) you have a good example to follow.'
Sahih al-Bukhari 1101
, and by his statement (he does not glorify [Allah]), he means: he does not perform the Saba'ah, which is the voluntary prayer. As for the two rak'ahs of Fajr and Witr, it is prescribed for the Muslim to pray them whether he is present or traveling, as it is established from 'A'ishah (may Allah be pleased with her) that she said:
Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) offered the `Isha' prayer (and then got up at the Tahajjud time) and offered eight rak`at and then offered two rak`at while sitting. He then offered two rak`at in between the Adhan and Iqama (of the Fajr prayer) and he never missed them.صلى النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم العشاء ثم صلى ثمان ركعات وركعتين جالسًا وركعتين بين النداءين ولم يكن يدعهما أبدًا
Sahih al-Bukhari 1159
, and as it is established in the hadith of 'Abdullah ibn 'Amir
That his father informed him that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) prayed the Saba'ah at night while traveling on the back of his mount, wherever it faced.أن أباه أخبره أن النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم صلى السبحة بالليل في السفر على ظهر راحلته حيث توجهت به
.
And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
