Ruling on performing the regular voluntary prayers (rawatib) while traveling

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question:
Your Eminence! A questioner asks: Are the regular voluntary prayers (rawatib) dropped while traveling, except for the two rak'ahs of Fajr and the Witr? I wish to maintain them during my travels. If I perform the rawatib and maintain them while traveling, is there any harm in that?

Answer:
It is better to leave them off while traveling, except for the Sunnah of Fajr, following the example of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). One should pray the Sunnah of Fajr along with it. As for the Sunnah of Zuhr, Maghrib, Isha, and Asr, it is better to leave them off; because Allah has lightened the prayer for the traveler by half, so he leaves off the voluntary prayers attached to the obligatory prayer.
As for praying the Duha prayer, the Sunnah of wudu, or the Tahajjud at night, this remains to be done by the traveler and others. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) used to pray Tahajjud at night and pray Duha while traveling. There is no harm in that. However, the pre- and post-Zuhr Sunnah, the pre-Asr Sunnah, the post-Maghrib Sunnah, and the post-Isha Sunnah are better left off while traveling. Yes.

The presenter: Are there specific days, O Shaykh, for traveling?

The Shaykh: If one is ruled to be traveling, if one... has the shortening of prayer, a distance of eighty kilometers or more, yes.

The presenter: May Allah reward you with good.
