If one forgets in voluntary prayer by adding a rak'ah, he prostrates for forgetfulness

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The first question of Fatwa number ( 13754 )
Q1: I performed the tarawih prayer last Ramadan with the congregation in the Grand Mosque of our town. The judge of the town led us in the 'Isha' prayer, and then he appointed one of the scholars to lead the tarawih prayer after him. He is a good man who memorizes the Noble Qur'an and works as a teacher at the Scientific Institute in our town. During the prayer, he made a mistake where he combined three
rak'ahs, and no one alerted him
. When he finished the prayer, the person behind him said to him: You combined three rak'ahs. So the imam turned to the judge and asked: Is what they said correct? The judge said: Yes! But prostrate for forgetfulness without performing another rak'ah. So he stood up and did that. Is this correct or not, and what is obligatory to do in such cases and similar ones?

A1: If the matter is as described, the prayer is valid. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
