Q 1: Is it permissible to perform the congregational prayer after completing the prayer behind the imam by forming another congregation led by another imam in the same mosque?
A 1: It is prescribed for one who enters the mosque and finds that the imam has already concluded the prayer to pray in congregation with those who were delayed with him. If he does not find anyone who missed the prayer, it is permissible for one of the congregation who prayed with the imam to stand with him so that they pray in congregation; this congregation is a voluntary prayer for the one who already prayed, and an obligatory prayer for the one who missed the prayer. This is based on what was narrated by Abu Dawud and al-Tirmidhi and others, that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said regarding the man who missed the congregation:Sahih Ibn Hibban 10:694 . And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
