Praying two rak'ahs after 'Asr

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The first question of Fatwa number ( 19518 )
Q1: The author, Muhammad Tariq Muhammad Saleh , states in his book (The Muslim's Deeds in the Day and Night): It is a sunnah to pray two rak'ahs after 'Asr, as this is established in authentic hadiths regarding the action of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) in performing them. The author cited the following hadiths: 1- From 'A'ishah (may Allah be pleased with her), she said:
Whenever the Prophet (ﷺ) come to me after the `Asr prayer, he always prayed two rak`at.ما كان النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم يأتيني في يوم بعد العصر إلا صلى ركعتين
Sahih al-Bukhari 593
, and in another narration:
The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) did not abandon at all observing two rak'ahs after the 'Asr in my house.ما ترك رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم ركعتين بعد العصر عندي قط
Sahih Muslim 835b
, narrated by al-Bukhari and Muslim . 2- And from 'A'ishah as well, she said:
Two are the prayers which the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) always observed in my house-openly or secretly-two rak'ahs before the dawn and two rak'ahs after the 'Asr.صلاتان ما تركهما رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم في بيتي قط، سرًّا ولا علانية: ركعتين قبل الفجر وركعتين بعد العصر
Sahih Muslim 835c
, narrated by Muslim . 3- And from her as well, she said:
The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) never left the two rak'ahs after 'Asrلم يدع رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم الركعتين بعد العصر
As-Sunan al-Kubra lil-Nasa'i 2:58
, narrated by Muslim .
Your Eminence: Are the aforementioned hadiths authentic? Is it a sunnah to pray two rak'ahs after the 'Asr prayer?

A1: Voluntary prayer is not permissible after 'Asr; because it is a time of prohibition. What the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) did in the mentioned hadiths was making up the regular prayer of Dhuhr that he had missed, and he (peace and blessings be upon him) persisted in it because he used to persist in whatever deed he performed. This is specific to him (peace and blessings be upon him). However, prayer after 'Asr is permissible if it is of the type that has a cause; such as the greeting of the mosque, the eclipse prayer, the two rak'ahs of tawaf after 'Asr and after Fajr, and the funeral prayer; due to the hadiths reported regarding this. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
