Are the two rak'ahs after 'Asr recommended?

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The questioner : What are the two rak'ahs that you pray? This is my question. What are the two rak'ahs after 'Asr?

The Shaykh : What are the two rak'ahs that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) used to pray after Dhuhr?

The questioner : The Sunnah of Dhuhr.

The Shaykh : What are the two rak'ahs that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) used to pray after Dhuhr?

The questioner : The Sunnah of Dhuhr, that is what it means.

The Shaykh : And what about the ones he used to pray after 'Asr? What are they? Or is your mind empty and far from the issue?

The questioner : No, no, it is the same one that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) prayed. He prayed two rak'ahs that he delayed from the people who were after 'Asr, which are the Sunnah of Dhuhr.

The Shaykh : So he delayed them and then stopped praying them?

The questioner : I do not know that he stopped.

The Shaykh : And this is what I am telling you. Many people still do not know that it is a recommended Sunnah to pray two rak'ahs after the 'Asr prayer. Many people do not know this fact. Therefore, it was confusing for some of the attendees when we emphasized more than once that if Muslims combine Dhuhr and 'Asr, there is no separation between the two obligatory prayers with the Sunnah prayer after Dhuhr, because this contradicts the combining. But if they finish the 'Asr prayer, then if he wishes to pray two rak'ahs after the 'Asr prayer, the two rak'ahs that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) used to pray after 'Asr, he may do so. It has come in Sahih Muslim, and you must know this fact, as the majority of worshippers have neglected it, not just today, but centuries before today. It came in Sahih Muslim from the hadith of A'ishah from the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him). She said:
The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) never prayed 'Asr one day and then entered my house except that he prayed two rak'ahs.
It is true that the reason for these two rak'ahs was that the Messenger was occupied from the two rak'ahs after Dhuhr, so he prayed them after 'Asr. But the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) persisted in these two rak'ahs, so they became a Sunnah. It was not just that he prayed them once and the matter ended. We are not prohibited from these two rak'ahs. No, rather the reason for praying them as two rak'ahs after 'Asr was that he was occupied from the two rak'ahs after Dhuhr, so the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) performed them after 'Asr, and then he continued with that, peace be upon him.
The Shaykh: On this occasion, it is also necessary that we remember another fact that many have also long neglected, which is that the hadiths that explicitly state
There is no prayer after the ‘Asr until the sun has set
Sunan Ibn Majah 1249Sahih (Darussalam)
, the intended meaning of this prohibition is the time of the yellowing of the sun, and not immediately after the 'Asr prayer. You have just heard that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) did not enter A'ishah's house after 'Asr except that he prayed two rak'ahs with her. In addition to what you have heard, hear his saying, peace be upon him:
praying after 'Asr unless the sun was still white, clear and high
Sunan an-Nasa'i 573Sahih (Darussalam)
So at that time, prayer is prescribed if the sun is white and high and has not yet inclined toward what? The setting. So the time in which prayer is prohibited after 'Asr is not the time that extends after a person prays the obligatory 'Asr until the sun sets. No, rather it is the last part of it, which is the time when the sun begins to weaken in heat and yellow in color, preparing to fall on the horizon, that is, to set. So this hadith
praying after 'Asr unless the sun was still white, clear and high
Sunan an-Nasa'i 573Sahih (Darussalam)
, restricts the well-known hadiths by the general statement
There is no prayer after the ‘Asr until the sun has set
Sunan Ibn Majah 1249Sahih (Darussalam)
, and of this type is the restriction of this general hadith, that is, of the type of the first hadith
praying after 'Asr unless the sun was still white, clear and high
Sunan an-Nasa'i 573Sahih (Darussalam)
. Exactly like it is his saying, peace be upon him:
Do not seek to pray before the setting of the sun.
, do not seek to pray, that is, do not intend to pray at what? At the setting of the sun, that is, its yellowing. And the implication of this hadith is that before that, it is permissible for a person to seek to pray. And thus the authentic hadiths meet each other, and it is established for us finally that a person may pray two rak'ahs after the 'Asr prayer, just as he prays two or four before it, due to his saying, peace be upon him:
Between every two calls (to prayer) there is a Salat for whoever wills.
Jami` at-Tirmidhi 185Sahih (Darussalam)
, he said in the third, for whoever wishes, a dislike that people take it as a Sunnah. And due to his saying, peace be upon him:
May Allah have mercy upon a man who prays four before Al-Asr.
Jami` at-Tirmidhi 430Hasan (Darussalam)
. So, in brief, it is permitted for the worshipper to pray four rak'ahs before 'Asr, or at least two rak'ahs. So likewise, he may pray two rak'ahs or more after 'Asr until the sun begins to yellow, and at that time, prayer becomes forbidden. This is what one should be aware of.

The questioner : So is it possible to pray two rak'ahs of Maghrib plus 'Isha' as well?

The Shaykh : Yes?

The questioner : So after 'Isha' in the combined prayer, he prays two rak'ahs of Maghrib and two rak'ahs of the Sunnah of 'Isha' as well?

The Shaykh : My brother, what did we say? My brother.

Another questioner : In the question itself, do we understand that we pray two rak'ahs regarding the hadith of A'ishah in the house, not in the mosque? So is there no condition that he prays them in the house?

The Shaykh : It is not a condition, my brother. All the Sunnahs are prayed in the house in terms of preference. But if he prays them in the mosque, it is permissible. ... Speak. I am saying that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
The most excellent prayer of a person is (that which he prays) in his house except that which is prescribed (the five congregational prayers).
Bulugh al-Maram 2:313
But if he prays the Sunnahs in the mosque, it is permissible. So after this explanation, there is no more discussion.

The questioner : I am saying regarding the hadith of A'ishah that he prayed two rak'ahs after the 'Asr prayer in the house, so is it better in the house or in the mosque?

The Shaykh: May Allah guide you.

The questioner : In the house, of course.
