The ruling on the prayer of a traveler who enters a town and finds them praying the 'Asr prayer, so he prays two rak'ahs with the intention of Zuhr and two rak'ahs with the intention of 'Asr
A traveling man entered a town while they were praying the 'Asr prayer, and he had not prayed either Zuhr or 'Asr. He joined them in the first two rak'ahs with the intention of Zuhr, then he said the taslim after the first tashahhud, stood up, and joined them in the last two rak'ahs with the intention of 'Asr. Is his prayer valid?
His prayer is not valid; this is because when a person joins the imam while he is completing the prayer, he is obligated to complete it.By the saying of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him): (Pray what you catch up with, and make up what you missed),And Ibn 'Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him and his father) was asked: [What is the matter with a man who prays two rak'ahs while traveling and four with the imam?He said: That is the sunnah] Based on this, we say to the brother: It is obligatory for you to repeat the prayer, praying Zuhr as four rak'ahs and 'Asr as four rak'ahs as well, for the sake of following the imam. May Allah reward you, convey this to him,and say: It is obligatory for you to pray four rak'ahs for Zuhr and four rak'ahs for 'Asr.
