Q: I work as a collaborator in one of the organizations concerned with spreading the religion of Islam. Among the items this organization distributes is a book in English titled (Islam in Focus). This book provides a brief explanation of Islam. In the chapter concerning how to perform the prayer, the author includes the following formula for sending blessings upon the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) after the tashahhud: O Allah, send blessings upon
our Prophet Muhammad and upon the family of our master Muhammad, just as You sent blessings upon our master Ibrahim and upon the family of our master Ibrahim, and send peace upon our master Muhammad and upon the family of our master Muhammad, just as You sent peace upon our master Ibrahim and upon the family of our master Ibrahim in the worlds. Indeed, You are the Praiseworthy, the Majestic. Therefore, I ask about the permissibility of this formula and the extent to which it is permissible. If it is not permissible, I ask your Eminence to guide me to what you consider appropriate?
A : The wording “al-siyadah” (mastery) did not come in any of the narrations of the Ibrahimiyyah prayer, so it is not prescribed to add it to the prayer. And because acts of worship are based on specific evidence, it should be removed from the book when it is intended to be printed, in order to adhere to what is established as having come from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). And success is from Allah, and may Allah send blessings and peace upon our Prophet Muhammad and his family and his Companions.
