Fatwa number ( 15766 )
Q: One of the imams, that is, the imam of a mosque, says: After the rains fell heavily, on one day during the 'Isha' prayer, after the last rak'ah and before prostration, I said: "To You is praise, O our Lord, as befits the majesty of Your Face and the greatness of Your dominion. O Allah, to You is praise until You are pleased, to You is praise when You are pleased, and to You is praise after You are pleased. O Allah, to You is praise for these rains. Make them a beneficial, harmless downpour. O Allah, bless us in what You have given us, and make it a means of sustenance until the time comes, and make it a help for us in Your obedience. O Allah, let Your blessings, Your kindness, and Your mercy continue. To You is praise, gratitude, and praise. And may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and all his Companions." The ma'mumin (those praying behind him) said "Ameen" to that. He mentions that some said: It is not befitting for any imam to say this supplication in the obligatory prayer. He requested that you be asked to issue a ruling on this action: is it permissible or not? He states that he did it only once, with the intention of thanking Allah and magnifying Him for this abundant gift. We hope you will issue a ruling for him. May Allah reward you with good and assist you?
A : The action of the aforementioned imam, which is like qunut after the last rak'ah
of the obligatory prayer, is not in its proper place, because qunut is not to be performed except in times of calamity. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
