Q 2: Why do we not place our eyes in the sky and place them in prostration?
A 2: The essence of khushu' (humility) in prayer is obligatory, and its perfection is among the recommended acts; because Allah mentioned it among the obligations in His saying, the Exalted:
(1) Certainly will the believers have succeeded: (2) They who are during their prayer humbly submissive (3) And they who turn away from ill speech (4) And they who are observant of zakah (5) And they who guard their private partsقَدْ أَفْلَحَ الْمُؤْمِنُونَ (1) الَّذِينَ هُمْ فِي صَلاتِهِمْ خَاشِعُونَ (2) وَالَّذِينَ هُمْ عَنِ اللَّغْوِ مُعْرِضُونَ (3) وَالَّذِينَ هُمْ لِلزَّكَاةِ فَاعِلُونَ (4) وَالَّذِينَ هُمْ لِفُرُوجِهِمْ حَافِظُونَ
[Al-Mu'minun 23:1-5]
the verses. And the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said regarding a group who raise their eyes to the sky:
The people who lift their eyes towards the sky in Prayer should avoid it or they would lose their eyesight.لينتهين أقوام عن رفع أبصارهم إلى السماء أو لا ترجع إليهم

and in a wording "or
Or their eyes will be plucked outلتخطفن
This is because raising the gaze to the sky may cause the one praying to see things that occupy his heart and prevent him from humility in prayer and reflection upon its remembrances. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
