Q: I am a man who carries the Mushaf while standing with the imam. I know that I benefit from this by following along, and my mind does not wander, but it increases the movement
on my part from placing the Mushaf and opening the Mushaf. Is there anything required of me in this? We ask you to clarify the issue?
A: It is obligatory for the ma'mum to listen to his imam's recitation and to reflect on what he hears of the words of Allah, and not to be distracted from that by anything else. This is based on the saying of Allah the Exalted:[Al-A'raf 7:204] , and Imam Ahmad (may Allah have mercy on him) said: The scholars agreed that it is in prayer. Carrying the Mushaf while the imam is reciting in order to follow the imam causes excessive movement, and the person next to him may be bothered by it, which affects the perfection of humility and submission in prayer. Therefore, it is prescribed to leave that. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
