The first question of Fatwa No. ( 14724 )
Q 1: I sometimes lead people in prayer, and I raise my hands during the bowing. One day, a shaykh of known knowledge, renowned for his learning among the people, prayed behind me. The result was that after finishing the prayer, this shaykh went to my father and told him: "Your son is not on your madhhab." So I asked my father about his madhhab and the madhhab followed by the shaykh. He said: "Both of their madhhabs are Hanafi, and in this madhhab, it is not permissible to raise the hands from the bowing." My question: What is the ruling on my prayer, and am I obligated to follow this madhhab or one of the four well-known madhhabs?
A 1 : Raising the hands in the takbir of entering prayer, in the takbir for bowing, and when rising from it is among the recommended practices of the prayer. This is established from the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) by what was narrated by al-Zuhri from Salim from his father, who said:Sunan Abi Dawud 721Sahih (Al-Albani) It was narrated by al-Bukhari, and he said: 'Ali ibn al-Madini said: It is obligatory upon the Muslims to raise their hands for the sake of this hadith. And from Muhammad ibn 'Amr ibn 'Ata' , who said: It was narrated by Abu Dawud and al-Tirmidhi , and he said: It is a good, authentic hadith. Your prayer is valid whether you raise your hands or not; because raising them is a recommended practice, and what is prescribed for the Muslim is to follow what is authentic from the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), whether it agrees with the school of jurisprudence or contradicts it. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.

I saw the Messenger of Allah(ﷺ) that when he began prayer, he used to raise his hands opposite his shoulders, and he did so when he bowed, and raised his head after bowing.
I heard Abu Hamid al-Sa'idi, along with ten of the Companions of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), among them Abu Qatadah. Abu Hamid said: "I am the most knowledgeable of you about the prayer of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him)." They said: "Then show us." He said: "The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), when he stood for prayer, would raise his hands until they were level with his shoulders, then he would say takbir until every bone settled in its place, standing upright. Then he would recite. Then he would say takbir and raise his hands until they were level with his shoulders, then he would bow and place his palms on his knees, then he would straighten his back, neither tilting his head nor lowering it. Then he would raise his head and say: 'Allahu ma' shakir li man hamidah' (Allah hears the one who praises Him). Then he would raise his hands until they were level with his shoulders, standing upright. And in this, they said: 'You have spoken the truth.' This is how he used to pray."
