Q: In the hadith:
When the Imam says Amin, say Amin, for if anyone’s utterance of Amin synchronnises with that of the angles, he will be forgiven his past sins.إذا أمن الإمام فأمنوا فإنه من وافق تأمينه تأمين الملائكة غفر له ما تقدم من ذنبه
Sunan Abi Dawud 936Sahih (Al-Albani)
but up to now I have not seen even an athar from this hadith. They have removed it from the map, even in al-Masjid al-Haram this hadith has not been applied. How do you explain this phenomenon? Have the imams of the mosques not looked into this hadith? Or have they been unable to apply it?

A: First: The hadith mentioned was narrated by the two Shaykhs in (their Sahihs) with the wording:
When the Imam says Amin, say Amin, for if anyone’s utterance of Amin synchronnises with that of the angles, he will be forgiven his past sins.إذا أمن الإمام فأمنوا فإنه من وافق تأمينه تأمين الملائكة غفر له ما تقدم من ذنبه
Sunan Abi Dawud 936Sahih (Al-Albani)
. Second: The majority of the scholars held that the follower matches the imam in the ameen, interpreting his saying in the hadith:
When the Imam says Amin, say Aminإذا أمن الإمام فأمنوا
Sunan Abi Dawud 936Sahih (Al-Albani)
meaning: when he intends to say the ameen. This is supported by what is established in (the two Sahihs) also from the hadith of Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
when the imam recites “ not of those with whom thou art angry, nor of those who go astray” (surah al-fatihah,verse 7) say Amin, for if one’s words (utterance of amin) synchronise with those of the angles, he will be forgiven his past sins.إذا قال الإمام غَيْرِ الْمَغْضُوبِ عَلَيْهِمْ وَلاَ الضَّالِّينَ فقولوا: آمين، فإنه من وافق قوله قول الملائكة غفر له ما تقدم من ذنبه
Sunan Abi Dawud 935Sahih (Al-Albani)
.
And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad and his family and his Companions.
