Interjection from "Abu Malik" regarding when the saying of "Ameen" behind the imam takes place?

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Abu Malik: May Allah bless you. We prayed Maghrib here just now, and when I said:
And not those who go astray. وَلَا الضَّالِّينَ
we split into two groups; one group waited until I began with
Ameen آمين
and they said "Ameen" with me, while the other group preceded us with this word or with the "Ameen." So our Shaykh—may Allah reward him with good—indicated to me to clarify this issue, or what is the ruling, or how is the "Ameen" behind the imam to be done? I say—may Allah bless you—the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) clarified in a collection of some hadiths, which are famous and well-known, from which we know how the "Ameen" behind the imam is to be done. And of course, this requires some attention so that we may discern the matter; because some hadiths may appear to their reader or listener to differ in their wording, whereas in reality they are not different nor contradictory in their meaning. So the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him), when he said:
And not those who go astray. وَلَا الضَّالِّينَ
the "Ameen" was said:
Ameen آمين
and he raised his voice with it at first. This indicates the prescription of the imam's "Ameen" with raising his voice, and it is a refutation of those who say that the "Ameen" behind the imam is not prescribed.
Among those who say that saying "Ameen" from behind the imam is not prescribed are the Shafi'is, the Shafi'is who follow the madhhab of Imam al-Shafi'i, or those who follow Imam al-Shafi'i, thinking that they are following him. And Imam al-Shafi'i (may Allah have mercy on him) holds the opposite of this in his book "Al-Umm"; he says that the imam says "Ameen" and raises his voice with the "Ameen," and the followers say "Ameen" behind him, they say "Ameen" behind him. And also the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) says in another hadith: إذا قال الإمام : وَلَا الضَّالِّينَ فقولوا : آمين When the imam says: "And not the astray," then say: "Ameen.", and in another hadith he says:
When the reciter says Amin, then say Amin, for if a person’s Amin coincides with the Amin of the angels, his previous sins will be forgiven. إذا قال الإمام : آمين ، فقولوا آمين ؛ فإن مَن وافق تأمينُه تأمينَ الملائكة غُفِرَ له ما تقدَّم من ذنبه
Sunan Ibn Majah 852Sahih (Darussalam)
. There is no contradiction between the two hadiths; because some people understand from the first hadith that when the imam says:
And not those who go astray. وَلَا الضَّالِّينَ
, it is merely that when he says:
And not those who go astray. وَلَا الضَّالِّينَ
, they begin saying "Ameen" from behind the imam. And in this is a missing of a matter we mentioned, which is that the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) would raise his voice with the "Ameen." And the meaning of this is that his raising his voice with the "Ameen" would have no benefit here if the followers said "Ameen" merely when the imam says:
And not those who go astray. وَلَا الضَّالِّينَ
, and did not wait for the imam to say "Ameen" first, or to begin with the "Ameen" at least, so that they say "Ameen" behind the imam.
Therefore, what is prescribed—my brothers—is to wait until the imam finishes reciting al-Fatihah in its entirety from
All praise is for Allah الْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ
to
And not the astray وَلا الضَّالِّينَ
, and the followers do not precede him with the "Ameen" until they hear him say "Ameen," so they say "Ameen" with him. And by that, they will all attain the virtue that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) indicated in the aforementioned hadith, which is this virtue:
for the angels say Amin and the Imam says Amin, and if a person's Amin coincides with the Amin of the angels, his previous sins will be forgiven. فإن الملائكة يؤمِّنون مع الإمام ؛ فَمَن وافق تأمينُه تأمينَ الإمام غُفِرَ له ما تقدَّم من ذنبه
Sunan an-Nasa'i 927Sahih (Darussalam)
.
This is what I have, and may Allah reward our Shaykh with good, where he alerted us or reminded us of this issue.
