The first question of Fatwa number ( 19673 )
Q 1: If I recited aloud in the Dhuhr prayer and the congregation alerted me, and I did not stop the recitation because I was forgetful, what is required of me?
A 1: It is established from the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) that he used to recite aloud in
the two rak'ahs of Fajr and in the first two rak'ahs of Maghrib and 'Isha', and that he used to recite quietly in the Dhuhr and 'Asr prayers, in the third rak'ah of Maghrib, and in the last two rak'ahs of 'Isha. Therefore, reciting aloud in what the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) recited aloud, and reciting quietly in what he recited quietly, is a recommended practice (sunnah) and what is prescribed for his Ummah (peace and blessings be upon him) is to follow his example; for it is established from him (peace and blessings be upon him) that he said:Sahih al-Bukhari 6008 If the one praying, whether an imam or alone, recites quietly in what is recommended to be recited aloud, or recites aloud in what is recommended to be recited quietly, and he remembers during the recitation, he should continue from where he left off in his recitation. It is recommended that he recite quietly in the remainder of his recitation in the secret prayers, and recite aloud in the loud prayers. If he intentionally recites quietly in what is recommended to be recited aloud, or the opposite, he has left the recommended practice (sunnah), but his prayer is not invalidated by that. Accordingly, there is nothing required of you for continuing to recite aloud in the Dhuhr prayer as long as you were forgetful, and your prayer is valid, if Allah wills. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
