The ma'mum says the takbirat al-ihram before the imam

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Fatwa number ( 19552 )
Q: What is the ruling on one who is in congregational prayer and says the takbirat al-ihram before the imam? Is his prayer valid or not? And what is the evidence for that?
A: If the ma'mum says the takbirat al-ihram before the imam says it, his prayer is not valid; because of the saying of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him):
The imam is appointed only to be followed; when he says "Allah is most great," say "Allah is most great" and do not say "Allah is most great" until he says "Allah is most great."إنما جعل الإمام ليؤتم به، فإذا كبر فكبروا ولا تكبروا حتى يكبر
Sunan Abi Dawud 603Sahih (Al-Albani)
, but if he realizes it and repeats the takbirat al-ihram after the imam has said it, his prayer is valid. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
