Using soap and a sponge: Does it invalidate the ablution?
Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The second question of Fatwa No. ( 20831 )
Q 2: If a Muslim performs ghusl (the full ritual bath) in the correct, prescribed manner, and then follows it by bathing with soap and a loofah (a piece of sponge) without touching his private parts with his bare hand, can he perform the prayer if he had previously intended to do so or performed wudu' (the ablution for prayer), or does using soap and a sponge invalidate his wudu'?
A 2: What invalidates the wudu' is touching the front or back private parts directly with the hand. However, if there is a barrier between the hand and the private parts, it does not invalidate the wudu'. Therefore, if you were in a state of ritual purity before bathing, and you did not touch your front or back private parts directly with your hand, but did so with a barrier as you did, and nothing came out of your two passages, then your wudu' is not invalidated by that.
And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
