Ruling on Omitting Rinsing the Mouth and Sniffing Water into the Nose

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The first question of Fatwa No. ( 20336 )
Q1: What is the ruling for one who performs wudu for prayer and washes four limbs, such as the face and hands, wipes the head, and washes the feet to the ankles, but does not perform the recommended practices, such as sniffing water into the nose, rinsing the mouth, and wiping the ears ?
A1: Rinsing the mouth and sniffing water into the nose are obligatory in ritual purity; because they are part of the face, and because the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) commanded them. From Abdullah ibn Zayd - regarding the description of wudu -:
The Prophet (ﷺ) put his hand (in the utensil) rinsed (his mouth) and sniffed up and blew (his nose) from one scoop (of water). He did that three times.ثم أدخل صلى الله عليه وسلم يده فمضمض واستنشق من كف واحدة، يفعل ذلك ثلاثًا
Bulugh al-Maram 54
Agreed upon by al-Bukhari and Muslim. Wiping the ears is also obligatory; because they are part of the head, and because of the action of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). From Abdullah ibn Amr (may Allah be pleased with them both), regarding the description of the wudu of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), he said:
He then wiped his head and inserted both his index fingers in his ear-holes; he wiped the back of his ears with his thumbsثم مسح برأسه، فأدخل أصبعيه السباحتين في أذنيه، ومسح بإبهاميه ظاهر أذنيه
Sunan Abi Dawud 135
Narrated by Abu Dawud and al-Nasa'i , and authenticated by Ibn Khuzaymah . Whoever does not rinse his mouth or sniff water into his nose, his wudu is not valid. Likewise, whoever does not wipe his ears, both the outer and inner parts, his wudu is not valid. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
