The Ruling on Rinsing the Mouth and Sniffing Water into the Nose During the Daytime of Ramadan

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The first message in this episode is from one of our female listeners, Safiyyah Muhammad from Lahij in Yemen. Our sister has a set of questions, among which is this one: Is it permissible for a fasting person to sniff water into the nose and rinse his mouth during the daytime of Ramadan?
Answer: In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. Praise be to Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon the Messenger of Allah, upon his family and his Companions, and upon those who follow his guidance. As for what follows:
It is established from the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) that he said:
and sniff water up into your nostrils, thoroughly, unless you are fasting.وبالغ في الاستنشاق إلا أن تكون صائماً
Sunan Ibn Majah 407Sahih (Darussalam)
, and he commanded to perform the ablution thoroughly, then he said:
and sniff water up into your nostrils, thoroughly, unless you are fasting.وبالغ في الاستنشاق إلا أن تكون صائماً
Sunan Ibn Majah 407Sahih (Darussalam)
This indicates that the fasting person should rinse his mouth and sniff water into his nose, but he should not exaggerate to the point where he fears water entering his stomach. As for sniffing water into the nose, it is necessary, and so is rinsing the mouth, because both are obligatory in the ablution for the fasting person and for everyone else. Yes.
