He passed away, leaving behind wealth, and there is doubt as to whether he had paid its zakah

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Q: My father passed away more than two and a half years ago, and he left behind some cash and real estate. We are unsure whether it is subject to zakah or not. He had a piece of land granted to him in the Eastern Province in 1408 AH, and we do not know if he was offering it for sale or not. However, he used to advise paying its zakah when it was sold. He also had another piece of land in al-Sultanah district from a long time ago, and four years ago he exchanged it for another piece of land in al-Namar district, saying: “I will pay the zakah when I sell the al-Namar land.” My questions are: 1. Is there zakah on the land in the Eastern Province, and is it paid for one year or for all the years? 2. Is there zakah on the al-Namar land or not? 3. Is there zakah on the cash in the bank that has not yet been divided, for the past two years or not? May Allah preserve you.
A: Zakah is obligatory on the cash left by the questioner’s father for all the past years. As for the lands inquired about, if any of them was intended for sale and its zakah was not paid during the questioner’s father’s lifetime, then zakah is obligatory on it, and it must be paid for all the years preceding the death of the deceased; because it is like merchandise
for trade, by estimating its value at the end of each year through experts.
