Setting up tents, preparing large amounts of food, and gathering at the deceased's family

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The first question of Fatwa number ( 19431 )
Q 1: We are a family, and this family branches out into houses, for example: Abu Kharim's house, Matrud's house, Bawdiya's house, and so on. The house consists of about 300 men, who are relatives, meaning cousins. When a death occurs in one of the houses that branches from the family, and the deceased has sons who receive condolences, the man's cousins and relatives come and say: We will set up a tent and bring shared food from the man's cousins, and the deceased's family does not pay or take anything out of their pockets. They set up the tent and sit for three days. We advised them and told them: It is not permissible to sit
at the deceased's family; because it is part of wailing. They said: We want the Committee's opinion, and we will act according to what the Committee approves. Knowing that sometimes some of them are not from their neighbors, he goes and buys a sheep, slaughters it, skins it, and comes to the deceased's family with it and rice, and cooks it at the deceased's family, and it is served to those in the tent. And sometimes the deceased's family does not have a share of this food due to the large number of attendees. Please advise and clarify the Sharia method for condolences.

A 1 : What is prescribed in consoling the deceased's family is to prepare food for them according to their need, and present it to them; due to the saying of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) when Ja'far ibn Abi Talib (may Allah be pleased with him) was martyred:
Prepare food for the family of Ja'far, for something has come to them that occupies themاصنعوا لآل جعفر طعامًا فإنه قد جاءهم ما يشغلهم
Musannaf Abd al-Razzaq 7:617
As for setting up tents, preparing large amounts of food, and gathering at the deceased's family, this is contrary to the Sunnah; due to the saying of Jarir ibn Abdullah al-Bajali (may Allah be pleased with him): (We considered gathering at the deceased's family and preparing food after the burial to be part of wailing). And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
