Repeating the funeral prayer for the deceased

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Fatwa number ( 17436 )
Q: What is the ruling on repeating the funeral prayer for the deceased , meaning if a person dies
in a city like al-Ta'if , and they prayed for him there, then his funeral was transferred to a suburb of this city to be buried there, is it permissible for the people of this suburb to repeat the prayer for him? And is it permissible for those who prayed for him the first time to repeat the prayer for him with those who did not pray for him? And is the repetition of the prayer for him performed in the mosque of this suburb or outside of it? And is the one who was killed by hadd, ta'zir, or as a victim of a crime washed and shrouded or not?

A: There is no objection to repeating the funeral prayer for the deceased. For example, if a group has already prayed over him, and then another group arrives, they may pray over him in congregation or individually, in the mosque or in the cemetery, before burial or after it, over the grave, up to a month. As for one who is killed unjustly, or by a hadd or ta'zir punishment, and he is a Muslim, he is washed, shrouded, prayed over, and buried in the Muslim cemeteries. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
