The prayer of a brother over his deceased brother

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The second question of Fatwa No. ( 18943 )
Q 2: My brother passed away, and while the funeral prayer was being performed over him, one of those present said to me: “Step forward to lead the funeral prayer over your brother.” What is your opinion, Your Eminence? Please note that there are others present who are more qualified to lead the prayer than I am. Is it permissible to pray over the deceased more than once? And is it permissible to pray over the deceased after he has been buried?
A 2: First: If you step forward to pray over your brother, and there is someone present who is more qualified than you, there is nothing wrong with that, provided your brother did not bequeath that a specific person lead the prayer. Second: Repeating the prayer over the deceased is not prescribed for one who has already prayed over him. However, if one has prayed over the funeral and then attends another prayer over it in the mosque or in the cemetery, there is nothing wrong with praying with them over it; for in that lies increased reward for him and for the deceased. As for one who has not prayed over him, it is recommended for him to pray over him, even in the cemetery, before or after the burial; based on the hadith of Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him),
A black woman used to clean the mosque, and she died, so they prayed over her at night. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: “Why did you not inform me?” It was as if they had belittled her status, so he said: “Show me her grave.” They showed him, and he prayed over her.
. Agreed upon by al-Bukhari and Muslim. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
