The Superiority of the Right Side of the Rows

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Fatwa and Qum ( 18049 )
Q: I heard the imam of our mosque say that the hadith ( "Indeed, Allah
and His angels bless those who are on the right flanks of the rowsوملائكته يصلون على ميامن الصفوف
Sunan Abi Dawud 676
) is a weak hadith that cannot be used as evidence; therefore, the row begins from the middle.

A: This hadith was narrated by Abu Dawud with a good chain from the hadith of 'A'ishah (may Allah be pleased with her), and al-Hafiz Ibn Hajar graded the chain of the hadith as good in (al-Fath 2/213) with the wording: (the right side of the rows), and the hadith indicates the superiority of the right side of the row, and the superiority of the right side of the row has been established by other than this hadith, for Abu Dawud and al-Nasa'i narrated with a sound chain from al-Bara' ibn 'Azib (may Allah be pleased with him) his statement:
When we would pray behind the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ), we liked to be on his right sideكنا إذا صلينا خلف النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم أحببنا أن نكون عن يمينه
Sunan Abi Dawud 615Sahih (Al-Albani)
, and Abu Dawud added:
He (the Prophet) would sit turning his face towards us (and back towards the Ka'bah) (ﷺ).فيقبل علينا بوجهه صلى الله عليه وسلم
Sunan Abi Dawud 615Sahih (Al-Albani)
, and this superiority is included in the general superiority of favoring the right, for in (the two Sahihs) it is narrated from 'A'ishah (may Allah be pleased with her) that she said:
Allah’s Messenger (rad) loved to begin with the right while putting on his shoes, combing his hair, in his purification and in all his affairsكان النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم يعجبه الـتيمن في تنعله وترجله وطهوره وفي شأنه كله
Bulugh al-Maram 44
. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
