How to Perform the Adhan

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Fatwa No. ( 20579 )
Q: I love the method by which the adhan of the Sacred Mosque is performed, the one that is well-known and recorded on the introduction of the Qur'an tapes in the Kingdom. I am able to perform it in the same way, and some of those who have heard me do it in the mosque have told me that they like it, and that it stirs in their hearts a longing and nostalgia for the land of the two Sacred Mosques. Some people even make du'a for me when they hear it from me, and they approve of that adhan. However, some of my brothers mentioned to me that this method contains lahn (vocal errors) and excessive stretching and elongation beyond what is known in the rules of tajwid. I have become hesitant when I perform the adhan in the famous method of the adhan of the Sacred Mosque. Is there a sin on me for that, or is this method permissible with no harm in it? Please inform us, may Allah reward you with good.
A: The adhan is among the great symbols of the Muslims. It is pure servitude of the servant to Allah the Exalted. For this reason, the mu'adhdhin must perform it as it has been prescribed, with a smooth and easy voice, without affectation or vocal errors, and he must not turn it into singing, nor stretch it
in a way that takes it out of its intended purpose. Rather, the mu'adhdhin performs it with his own voice, observing its conditions and its legal etiquettes. Affecting the performance of the adhan by imitating the voice of another mu'adhdhin is not known in the guidance of the righteous Salaf. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
