The Adhan via Recording

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Fatwa No. ( 19015 )
Q: I am an employee at one of the companies, and in this company the adhan for the Dhuhr and Asr prayers is made via a recording . What is the ruling on this, and is this considered a shari'ah adhan? And if a person calls the adhan at the prayer place, is that sufficient? Knowing that only a few hear it, and the company is large with many employees. And what is your guidance regarding making the iqamah and prayer via a loudspeaker; for the sake of alerting the heedless and those who did not hear the adhan?
A: The adhan broadcast from a recording is not sufficient for the shari'ah adhan prescribed for announcing the entry of the time; because it is not a real adhan but rather a stored sound, and the adhan is an act of worship that requires action and intention; due to the saying of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him):
The reward of deeds depends upon the intentions and every person will get the reward according to what he has intended.إنما الأعمال بالنيات وإنما لكل امرئ ما نوى
Sahih al-Bukhari 1
, and therefore, the adhan is required at the entry of the time in the place where the prayer is performed, and if a loudspeaker is needed to inform people to attend
the prayer, that is good. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
