The friend who is lazy about prayer: what should be done with him?
Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The third question of Fatwa number ( 15398 )
Q 3: I have a close friend, and I want to advise him to pray, but he refuses and says:[Al-Qasas 28:56] So what should I do with him?
A 3: It is obligatory for you to continue advising your friend who does not pray. If he does not accept, do not befriend him; because abandoning prayer is disbelief. Allah the Exalted said:[Al-Mujadila 58:22] And He said: [Al-Mumtahanah 60:1] As for his saying to you when you advise him: [Al-Qasas 28:56] it is a false argument; because guidance through instruction is required and the created being is capable of it. Allah the Exalted said regarding His Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) [Ash-Shuraa 42:52] And he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Sahih al-Bukhari 3701 narrated by al-Bukhari and Muslim . What is negated in the verse is guidance through success in accepting the truth; because this guidance is the exclusive domain of Allah (Glorified and Exalted is He), as in His saying:
[Al-Baqarah 2:272] And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
Q 3: I have a close friend, and I want to advise him to pray, but he refuses and says:
Indeed, [O Muhammad], you do not guide whom you like, but Allah guides whom He wills
A 3: It is obligatory for you to continue advising your friend who does not pray. If he does not accept, do not befriend him; because abandoning prayer is disbelief. Allah the Exalted said:
You will not find a people who believe in Allah and the Last Day having affection for those who oppose Allah and His Messenger
O you who have believed, do not take My enemies and your enemies as allies
Indeed, [O Muhammad], you do not guide whom you like
And indeed, [O Muhammad], you guide to a straight path -
وَإِنَّكَ لَتَهْدِي إِلَى صِرَاطٍ مُسْتَقِيمٍif one man is guided on the right path (i.e. converted to Islam) through you, it would be better for you than (a great number of) red camels.
Not upon you, [O Muhammad], is [responsibility for] their guidance, but Allah guides whom He wills.
