The first question of Fatwa No. ( 9878 ):
Q1: What is the interpretation of the saying of Allah the Exalted:[Al-Baqarah 2:272] ?
A1: The meaning of the phrase is: But Allah grants success to whom He wills to goodness, to the exclusion of His other servants, even the prophets. Their role is only guidance through direction and conveying the message, as He the Exalted said, addressing His Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him):[Al-Qasas 28:56] . This is the guidance of success and acceptance of the truth. As for the guidance of conveying and direction, it is mentioned in His saying: [Ash-Shuraa 42:52] , at the end of Surat al-Shura. And success is from Allah. May Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.

إِنَّكَ لاَ تَهْدِي مَنْ أَحْبَبْتَ وَلَكِنَّ اللَّهَ يَهْدِي مَنْ يَشَاءُAnd indeed, [O Muhammad], you guide to a straight path -
