Touching police dogs

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Fatwa number ( 14457 )
Q: We are a group of Saudi youth working at the Customs Authority with police dogs for detecting narcotics and explosives. The nature of our work requires touching the dogs and dealing with them , to the extent that the dogs' saliva falls on our clothes and hands, as well as their hair. We know that these dogs receive continuous medical care, cleanliness, and special food, but we do not know the ruling on working with them. We are aware that there is a hadith from the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) regarding not keeping a dog except for hunting or guarding. We also know that, by the grace and success of Allah, a great deal of narcotics has been detected by these dogs. Your Eminence, we ask you to guide us with what you deem appropriate. May Allah preserve you and care for you.
A : There is no harm in working in that, provided one must be careful to avoid their ritual impurity, and wash what of their saliva, urine, or anything else that touches the clothing or body, and likewise wash the vessels in which they drink seven times, the first of which with soil or whatever serves as its substitute. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
