Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Q: What is the ruling on a person saying to another, “May Allah’s Face be upon you,” meaning “do such and such”? And what is the ruling on the person to whom this phrase is directed if he does not respond to it? Please give us a ruling, and may Allah reward you. May Allah guide you and make your knowledge beneficial to Islam and the Muslims.
A: The mentioned wording is not permissible; because it is asking by the face of Allah (Mighty and Majestic), and the prohibition came regarding asking by the face of Allah the Exalted except for asking for Paradise, from Jabir
(may Allah be pleased with him) said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
Nothing but Paradise must be begged for Allah's sake.لا يسأل بوجه الله إلا الجنة
Sunan Abi Dawud 1671Da'if (Al-Albani)
It was narrated by Abu Dawud .
