Praise be to Allah alone, and may prayers and peace be upon the one after whom there is no prophet. After that: The Permanent Committee for Scholarly Research and Ifta has reviewed what was sent to His Eminence the Grand Mufti from the honorable head of the Center of the Commission for Promoting Virtue and Prohibiting Vice in the Bahar Abu Sukaynah Center , number (335 60), dated 24/12/1429 AH, and referred to the Committee
From the General Secretariat of the Council of Senior Scholars, number (12), dated 1/1/1430 AH, containing His Eminence’s request to review the fatwa request submitted by: (S. M. N. Q.), who asks: (I submit this petition and seek a fatwa, as I had a young sona young boy who was three years old fell and drowned in the house’s water tankwhile the tank was being filled by a water truck on the eighth day of Dhu al-Hijjah, 1429 AH. My wife and I were inside the building, and we did not know when he left the house, knowing that the tank is inside the building. My wife and I were awake, not asleep, at exactly twelve noon. I seek a fatwa on what is required of my wife and me; she was working in the kitchen and did not know about him until he died? We hope this is referred to His Eminence the Mufti. Is anything required of me and my wife? And peace be upon you, and Allah’s mercy and blessings.)
After the Committee studied the fatwa request, it answered that it does not appear to them that there is anything that makes an expiation obligatory upon his parents or either of them.
