Building a grave out of cement and iron
Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The first question of Fatwa number ( 16559 )
Q 1: I built a grave out of cement and iron. What is the ruling on that? I should mention that the iron is mixed with the cement for the cover only, while the rest of the grave is made of cement only?
A 1 : The prescribed manner for a grave is to dig it in the ground and deepen it to the extent that it preserves the deceased and prevents the smell. A niche or trench is made in its side in which the deceased is placed, and it is sealed with bricks or the like to prevent the soil from reaching the deceased. Then
it is buried with its soil, as the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) used to bury his Companions, and as was the practice of the Muslims. If the ground does not hold together when dug, there is no harm in building the sides of the grave with the usual construction that involves no exaggeration and no distinction from other graves. However, building graves with cement and iron is not permissible; for it is established from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) the hadith of Jabir ibn 'Abd Allah (may Allah be pleased with them both), who said:Sahih Muslim 970a It was narrated by the Imam Muslim in his (Sahih). And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
