Fatwa No. ( 16296 )
Praise be to Allah alone, and blessings and peace be upon the one after whom there is no prophet. And after: The Permanent Committee for Scholarly Research and Ifta has reviewed what was sent to His Eminence the Grand Mufti from His Excellency the Deputy of the Department of Islamic Affairs and Endowments in the government of Sharjah , United Arab Emirates
States, which was referred to the Committee by the General Secretariat of the Council of Senior Scholars with number (1805) and date 17/4/1413 AH. His Excellency asked a question, the text of which is: We enclose a photograph distributed in the United Arab Emirates as the grave of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). We ask you to kindly provide us with a fatwa, letter, or advice regarding it to be published in the country, in order to inform and educate the public about the consequences of falling into such matters.
After the Committee studied the inquiries, it answered as follows: Upon studying the matter, the Committee saw fit to write to the person in charge of the affairs of the Noble Prophet's Mosque . We received his letter No. (690/1) dated 18/6/1414 AH, stating that he appointed a committee to examine the attached photograph and provide feedback by comparing it with the reality. They concluded with a report stating: They inspected the Prophet's Chamber and observed that the photograph is not accurate, and that it is originally a hand-drawn sketch, not a photograph. End of report. Therefore, the aforementioned photograph is considered a false forgery with no validity, and it does not represent the reality of the Noble Prophet's Grave . Even if it were assumed to match the reality, it is not permissible to circulate it or attach oneself to it, due to the excess and shirk (associating partners with Allah) and its means that it leads to. Therefore, it is forbidden to draw, sell, or collect it, due to the opening of the causes of shirk and idolatry. It is established from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) what indicates
the prohibition of that, in order to cut off the means of shirk and excess. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send blessings and peace upon our Prophet Muhammad and his family and companions.
