Cremation of Corpses

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Fatwa No. ( 17513 )
Q: The issue of cremating corpses , what is the ruling of the Islamic religion on this matter? I am a Muslim of French nationality, and I live among Christians and Buddhists, and they have asked me for the opinion of Islam on this matter.
A: Cremating the corpses of the dead is an act that is not permissible in the Shari'ah, and it is from the practice of the polytheists. The Sunnah is that the Muslim deceased is washed, shrouded, prayed over, and buried in the general cemetery for Muslims; because the sanctity of a Muslim in death is like his sanctity in life. As for the non-Muslim, he is buried in a grave far away from the community so that people are not harmed by him, and he is not cremated. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
