My father passed away with sixty silver riyals in his debt
Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Fatwa number ( 18625 )
Q: My father passed away with sixty silver riyals in his debt, which was the value of clothing and furnishings from forty years ago. However, I made every effort to find the owner of the money, but I found no evidence. What should I do with the money , and does it remain at silver prices? Please inform us, may Allah reward you.
A: The aforementioned dirhams are a debt in your father’s estate. It is obligatory to pay it in silver coins or in paper currency at their value from his estate, if he left an estate. If he did not leave an estate and you volunteer to pay it on his behalf, that is good. If you do not find its owner after a thorough search and it becomes difficult to locate him, give it in charity on his behalf.
And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
