The first question of Fatwa No. ( 15952 )
Q 1: How do we settle the debt of a deceased person who stated that he had a debt but did not specify the creditor or the amount?
A 1: If the deceased informed before his death that he had a debt but did not specify its amount or its creditor, then it is obligatory in such a case to announce in the newspapers that anyone who has a claim against so-and-so, son of so-and-so, should come forward to his agent or his heirs. Whoever comes with proof of his debt against the deceased will have his debt paid from the deceased's estate. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
