The ruling on one who had a debt on his father but did not know the creditor or the amount
Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The listener (M. N. S.) from Somalia, who works in the Kingdom, sent a message saying: My father passed away when I was young, and after I grew up, I heard that he had a debt. I do not know the amount of this debt or who the creditor is. Also, the one who informed me about this debt passed away to the mercy of Allah the Exalted without me knowing who the creditor was. So how should I act to clear my father’s conscience from this debt whose amount I do not know and whose creditor I do not know? Please advise us, may Allah reward you with good?
Answer: You are not obligated to do anything, my brother! As long as you do not know the people of the debt and no one has demanded it from you, you are not obligated to do anything, praise be to Allah. Except if you know of a debt by valid legal evidence and your father left an estate, then it is paid from the estate. And if you have paid it from your own wealth, may Allah reward you with good. But as long as the matter is such that you do not know the debt or the people of the debt, and no one has demanded it from you, then you owe nothing, and praise be to Allah.
The presenter: May Allah reward you with good.
