The Prophet’s (peace and blessings be upon him) prayer for the debtor
Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Your Eminence! The Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) did not pray for the debtor who had a debt; but one of the brothers mentioned to me that at the end of his life he prayed for the debtor.
Is this correct?
This is correct; because at first, (peace and blessings be upon him), he was of little means, and he did not ransom those who had wealth, but when the wealth increased, as Allah indicated in His saying: [Al-Fath: 20] when the wealth increased with him, it became so that if a deceased person was brought to him with a debt, he (peace and blessings be upon him) would undertake to pay it off and pray for him. From this it is understood that if a deceased person leaves behind a pledge that suffices for his debt, or a guarantor who guarantees it, then this debt has no effect on his estate. And from this is what is now very common in our society: the debt that is established on a person from the Real Estate Development Fund, which is deferred for several years. If these people die after having paid what became due during their lives, they have no liability for the remainder of the debt; because this debt has a pledge, and this pledge suffices to pay off the remainder of the debt.
