Water in Cisterns: If an Animal Falls In, How Is It Purified
Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The second question of Fatwa No. ( 14599 )
Q 2: Water channels and cisterns are exposed to the possibility of small animals falling into them, such as cats and birds, or even snakes and mice, etc. How can they be purified if this happens, so that their water becomes suitable for use and worship?
A 2: If animals that are forbidden to eat, such as a cat or a snake, or similar, or animals that are permissible to eat, such as pigeons or chickens, fall into the water and do not die in it, the water remains pure based on the original state. If those animals die in the water and the water is a small amount, it becomes ritually impure. If the water is a large amount and its taste, smell, or color does not change, it does not become ritually impure. This is based on what the compilers of the Sunan collections reported from Abu Sa'id (may Allah be pleased with him), that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: And in a narration in Ahmad : Musannaf Abd al-Razzaq 1:259 . And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.

إذا بلغ الماء القلتين لم يحمل الخبثIf the water is two qullahs, nothing makes it impure
إذا كان الماء قلتين لم ينجسه شيء
