“When I command you to do something, do as much of it as you are able”

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The first question of Fatwa No. ( 10593 )
Q 1: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
When I command you to do something, do as much of it as you are able, and when I forbid you from something, refrain from itما أمرتكم بشيء فأتوا منه ما استطعتم، وما نهيتكم عنه فانتهوا
Sunan al-Bayhaqi 10:983
We ask your Eminence to explain this hadith very briefly and what its implication is? Because some of the common people say: This hadith is a dispensation, so we do what we are able to do, and we do not do what we are not able to do, and because this is a great door for abandoning the Sunnah.

A 1: What is meant by the statement of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him):
So when I command you to do anything, do it as much as it lies in your powerإذا أمرتكم بشيء فأتوا منه ما استطعتم
Sahih Muslim 1337
Ability is: the capacity to do something without hardship. For example, the one praying is commanded to stand during the prayer, so if he is unable to stand, he prays sitting. And whoever witnesses the month of Ramadan from among those who are accountable is commanded to fast, so if he is unable due to illness, he breaks his fast and makes it up later, and so on.
And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
