The Permanent Delay in Attending Friday Prayer

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Fatwa No. ( 18993 )
Q: There is a man of religion among us whose house is near the mosque, and he does not attend the Friday prayer until after the imam has ascended the pulpit. When I asked him about the reason, he told me: “I listen to the sermon of the Grand Mosque on the radio, and that is better than my attending the mosque early.”
A: Hastening to the Friday prayer has great virtue and reward. It is established in the two Sahihs and others from the hadith of Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him), that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
If someone does ghusl for major ritual impurity on the day of jumua and then goes in the first part of the time, it is as if he had offered up a camel. If he goes in the second part of the time, it is as if he had offered up a cow. If he goes in the third part of the time, it is as if he had offered up a horned ram. If he goes in the fourth part of the time, it is as if he had offered up a hen. If he goes in the fifth part of the time, it is as if he had offered up an egg. And when the imam comes out, the angels settle down listening to the dhikr (remembrance of Allah).
Muwatta Malik 5:1
. It is prescribed for the Muslim to strive to arrive early for the Friday prayer as much as he is able, unless something more important occupies him, such as the interests of his family, his livelihood, or other matters of his religion and worldly affairs. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
